A GPS rollover will occur in December 2020 which will affect the following Furuno products:
Felcom 15.
Units affected: Serial number before 3533-9371.
Symptom: Actual communication is not affected but the date is not automatically updated and is incorrectly displayed in SSAS and VMS reports.
Remedy: Software update and replacement of internal GPS module – contact Barry Electronics.
Note: This only applies to units with built-in GPS. If GPS is being fed from a separate GPS receiver, no action need be taken.
Felcom 16.
Units affected: Serial number before 3534-2756.
Symptom: Actual communication is not affected but the date is not automatically updated and is incorrectly displayed in SSAS and VMS reports.
Remedy: For serial no. before 3534-2756, software update and replacement of internal GPS module. For serial no. after 3534-2756, software update – contact Barry Electronics.
Felcom 70.
Units affected: All.
Symptom: Regardless of rollover, Inmarsat will cease their Fleet 77 service in December 2020.
Remedy: Replace equipment.
FA-100 AIS.
Units affected: All.
Symptom: AIS communication will continue to operate but internal logs (messages, etc.) will have incorrect date.
Remedy: Replace equipment.
GP-310B GPS receiver antenna.
Units affected: Serial number before 3453-5687.
Symptom: Unit will cease to function.
Remedy: Replace unit.
GP-80 GPS
Units affected: Serial numbers in the range 2477-8733 to 3457-3275.
Symptom: Date will roll back to 1st August, 1999.
Remedy: It is recommended to replace unit.
GP-90 GPS
Units affected: All units.
Symptom: Expected to fail by June, 2021 or, in some cases, by January, 2022.
Remedy: It is recommended to replace unit.
GP-150 GPS
Units affected: All units.
Symptoms: Expected to fail at rollover in January, 2022.
Remedy: Software update – please contact Barry Electronics.
